Funding
WIAS-HiTNIHS has been developed within the project Numerical simulation and control of sublimation growth of semiconductor bulk single crystals which is currently financially supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) within the DFG Research Center Matheon .
Until the end of 2003, the project was also funded by the German Federal Department of Education and Research (BMBF) within the program "New Mathematical Methods in Manufacturing and Service Industry" #03SPM3B5. The authors are responsible for the contents of this publication.
The implementation of dealing with traveling magnetic fields and the computations of Lorentz-forces done within the project KRISTMAG have been funded by WIAS.

Description

The software WIAS-HiTNIHS constitutes a tool for both stationary and transient simulations of heat transport in axisymmetric technical systems that are subject to intense heating by induction or resistance heating. The simulator accounts for heat transfer by radiation through cavities, and it allows for changes in the material parameters due to the rising temperature, e.g. employing temperature-dependent laws of thermal and electrical conductivity. Moreover, it is also possible to use WIAS-HiTNIHS just to compute axisymmetric magnetic scalar potentials and the resulting heat sources. In particular, one can compute so-called traveling magnetic fields and resulting Lorentz forces acting on conducting liquids. The simulator is designed to deal with complicated axisymmetric setups having a polygonal 2d projection. The induction coil is allowed to move during the simulation. For the user control interface to WIAS-HiTNIHS, there is a proto typical graphical user interface (GUI), as well as a script-based interface using the interpreted script language Lua. WIAS-HiTNIHS is based on the WIAS program package pdelib, and it uses the grid generator Triangle, the graphics software OpenGL, and the sparse matrix solver PARDISO.

WIAS-HiTNIHS is based on the heat transport model developed within the project Numerical simulation and control of sublimation growth of semiconductor bulk single crystals, where Finite Volume Methods are used for the discretization of the partial differential equations resulting from the model.
