The group was established in the framework of the competition procedure of the Leibniz Association. Its research topics are the mathematical modeling, analysis, numerical analysis, and simulation of different components of lithium-ion batteries, particularly:
  1. Many-particle electrodes
  2. Graphite electrodes
  3. Electrolytes
  4. Electrolyte-electrode interfaces
The models describe electrochemical processes and transport phenomena by partial differential equations in the volume and by jump conditions at the interfaces.

The Leibniz group takes part in the following main application areas:
