Mathematical modeling and numerical simulations of micro-integrated external-cavity diode lasers

Project Heads:

Dr. Hans Wenzel Ferdinand-Braun-Institut Berlin
Dr. Mindaugas Radziunas (WIAS, Research group Laser Dynamics)

Project Description

The goal of the project is to establish a German - Moldavian cooperation for theoretical investigation of the dynamics of micro-integrated external-cavity diode lasers (ECDLs). The lasers include a laser chip and a volume holographic Bragg grating within the external cavity and are designed for quantum optical experiments in space. These lasers demonstrate a complex non-linear electro-optic behavior which is not completely understood yet. The MANUMIEL project should stimulate the development of the mathematical modeling and numerical simulations of ECDLs at the Technical University of Moldova (TUM). The theoretical investigations done by the colleagues from the TUM will contribute to a better understanding of the observed phenomena and will help to improve the design of ECDLs. In the WIAS developed software package will be heavily used in these analytic and numeric investigations. All this study will be carried out in close collaboration with the experimental group from Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik.
