The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.

”Partial Differential Equations”

(Head: Prof. Dr. Alexander Mielke) starting at January 1, 2019 in the project “Hybrid models for the electro-thermal behavior of organic semiconductor devices” in the frame of the Cluster of Excellence MATH+. The aim of this project is to derive, study and implement hybrid models based on partial differential equations for the charge and heat transport in organic semiconductor devices. This new modeling approach combines already known drift-diffusion formulations and coarser descriptions based on generalized thermistor models with the aim to find an exact and efficient modeling of the relevant effects. We plan analytical investigations of the model, its implementation, the testing of the developed simulation tool and simulations of the electro-thermal behavior of organic semiconductor devices.

We are seeking a mathematician who will work on modeling, analysis and numerics of problems in the field of organic semiconductor physics. We expect

  • Scientific university degree and a PhD (or equivalent experience) in mathematics, preferably with a specialization in the field of applied analysis or numerics,
  • very good knowledge of analysis and numerics of nonlinear partial differential equations,
  • readiness to cooperate within MATH+ and with physicists and engineers.

Experience in the field of physical and mathematical modeling, of model reduction and the analytic treatment of multi-scale problems and in the handling of free and commercial simulations software would strengthen your application.

Please direct your queries to Dr. Annegret Glitzky (annegret.glitzky@wias-berlin.de) or Dr. Matthias Liero (matthias.liero@wias-berlin.de).

The position is limited until December 31, 2020. The work schedule and the salary are according to the German TVoeD scale.

The Weierstrass Institute is an equal opportunity employer. We explicitly encourage female researchers to apply for the offered position. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to disabled candidates.

Please upload complete application documents curriculum vitae, photocopies of certificates and a list of publications, including a cover letter as soon as possible and no later than December 31st, 2018 via our online job-application facility (https://www.wias-berlin.de/jobs/index.jsp?lang=1) using the button “Apply online”.

We are looking forward to your application!
