The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.

WIAS invites applications for a

Research Assistant Position

(Ref. 17/22)

in the Research Group

”Laser Dynamics”

(Head: Priv.-Doz Dr. Uwe Bandelow) starting at the earliest possible date.

The successful applicant will use methods from the theory of dynamical systems to analyse the propagation and interaction of pulses in nonlinear optical media, in Hamiltonian as well as in dissipative cases. For integrable cases the theory of solitons applies in particular.

Applicants are expected to have a university degree (PhD preferred) and an intimate knowledge in the following topics

  • mathematical modeling of the propagation and interaction of optical pulses in nonlinear media,
  • numerical analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations,
  • theory of nonlinear partial differential equations, in particular soliton theory

and the willingness to collaborate responsibly in applied industrial projects.

Please direct your queries to Priv.-Doz. Dr. Uwe Bandelow (Uwe.Bandelow@wias-berllin.de).

The initial appointment is for two years and can be extended. The work schedule is 39 hours per week, and the salary is according to the German TVoeD scale.

The Weierstrass Institute is an equal opportunity employer. We explicitly encourage female researchers to apply for the offered position.

Among equally qualified applicants, disabled candidates will be given preference.

All applicants’ materials (curriculum vitae, photocopies of certificates and a list of publications, including a cover letter) shall be sent with the reference number 17/xx exclusively in electronic form in a single pdf file by January 10, 2018 to:
