The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.

WIAS invites applications for a

PhD Position

(Ref. 14/31)

in the Research Group

“Numerical Mathematics and Scientific Computing”

(Head: Prof. Dr. V. John) starting at the earliest possible date (Ref. 14/31).

The goal of  the Ph.D. project is the development  of innovative methods for the  simulation of flows with  particles based on the  coupling of stochastic  particle methods  with  methods  from Computational  Fluid Dynamics.

Applicants are expected to have a master’s degree in a related topic, knowledge of numerical methods for the solution of partial differential equations, and good programming skills.

The initial appointment is limited for two years. The reduced work schedule is 29,25 hours per week, and the salary is 75 % of the German public service scale (TVöD).
