The Weierstrass
Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS)
is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research
institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The
research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.
WIAS invites applications
for a
Postdoc Position (Ref. 14/05)
and a
PhD Student Position (Ref. 14/06)
in the Research Group
“Numerical Mathematics and Scientific
Computing”
(Head: Prof. Dr.
V. John)
starting at the earliest possible date.
The positions are aimed at the maintenance,
development and implementation of numerical methods and software for the
simulation of charge transport processes in semiconductors. WIAS has a long
standing tradition of cooperation with partners from academia and industry in
this field. Applicants are expected to participate in these activities and to
actively cooperate with relevant partners inside and outside of WIAS. Topics of
current projects include semiconductor photon detectors, organic semiconductor
materials and silicon photonics.
Applicants are expected to have a university master
degree (PhD student position) resp. PhD (postdoc position) in Mathematics,
Physics or a related topic and extended knowledge in numerical methods for the
solution of partial differential equations. Further backgrounds on related
topics of physics or the computer implementation of numerical algorithms are highly
appreciated.

The
appointments are for three years. The salaries are according to the German
public service tariff scale. The postdoc position is a full time position,
whereas the PhD position is a 75% position.
