The Leibniz Network "Mathematical Modeling and Simulation" invites to the third Leibniz MMS Days hosted by the Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM) and the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) in Leipzig.

The Workshop aims to further develop the MMS networking activities in the different Institutes, presenting undergoing work using modern methods of MMS and creating a plattform for discussion on themes of specific and general interest.

Key Speakers

  • Neil Chue Hong (Software Sustainability Institute / University of Edinburgh): title tba
  • Tijana Janjic Pfander (Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) / Ludwig-Maximilians-Universiät München): Challenges of atmospheric data assimilation
  • Klaus Kroy (Leipzig University): Why is the desert not flat? The interesting physics of windblown sand.

Scientific Board

Michael Hintermüller (WIAS Berlin)
Stefan G. Mayr (IOM Leipzig)
Ina Tegen (TROPOS Leipzig)

Lectures are scheduled from Wednesday midday until Friday afternoon. A poster session will be held on Wednesday evening.

The workshop will comprise general plenary discussions on:

  • MMS related topics at large.
  • Future of scholary research communication (Resarch Data, Reproducibility, Model representation, FAIR Principles, Software citation).
  • Handling of large datasets: infrastructures and software technologies.
  • Research Software Engineering, Report from FORCE 11.

and smaller groups focused on the scientific topics:

  • Atomistic modelling.
  • Computational and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics.
  • Modelling of high dimensional and funktional data (Inverse Problems, Deep Learning, Sparsity).
  • Modelling of semi conductors and electrolytes (materials, charge carrier transport, devices, nano struktures).
