The derivation of a possibly non-local spin drift diffusion model for electron transport in semiconductors is presented. The starting point of the derivation is the von Neumann equation with a Hamiltonian which includes the spin degrees of freedom. Applying the Wigner transformation to the von Neumann equation and expanding the Moyal product with respect to the Planck constant leads to a kinetic system known as Wigner equations. A Chapman- Enskog expansion of the Wigner distribution and a diffusive limit lead to a non-local full component Spin Drift Diffusion Model, under the condition that two certain operators commute.
