Session on Computational and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics

The session is devoted to all aspects of fluid dynamics, with a traditional emphasis on applications in meteorology, oceanography and computational fluid dynamics. Moreover, this year contributions from magneto hydrodynamics and the astrophysics community are especially encouraged.

The following topics are especially addressed:

  • coherent structures & nonlinear dynamics of flows
  • turbulence modelling
  • data assimilation
  • robust numerical CFD solvers (robust space discretizations, thermodynamical consistency, iterative solvers, time-integration)

Besides novel solutions also open problems can be presented.

Research

Numerical simulations contribute to the understanding of the subsurface dynamics of stars, based on results from
