3D MR Imaging
Within the project, the basic AWS algorithm was extended in different directions and successfully applied to some new problems arising in medical and biological imaging. We extended the basic AWS method to structural adaptive local polynomial smoothing and considered adaptive local likelihood modeling with applications to binary and Poisson data. Both approaches lead to very efficient algorithms for image denoising and structure enhancement in both 2D and 3D images, see Figure for a 3D MRI example. We also succeeded to prove optimality of the procedures .
