Microbiological Images
Microbiological images are often characterized by high noise level and bad signal to noise ratios. The distribution of gray values strongly depends on the imaging technique. The Figure shows a slice of a 3D image of a cell nucleus obtained by confocal microscopy and its reconstruction by a local constant AWS procedure. The distribution of gray values shows a clear proportionality of mean and variance.

We are studying the structure of the image rather than just denoising: edge detection, segmentation, classification, and pattern regognition
