The WIAS is an applied mathematics research institute and in support of our research the IT-department runs an extensively connected infrastructure including a data centre, compute servers and end user devices.

As our Senior IT Specialist you will develop medium- and long-term strategies for the ongoing development of a user focussed IT environment.  This IT environment must support the research and quality maintenance strategy of the institute.  You will organise the procurement of software, hardware and IT-services.  You will coordinate the user support and maintenance of the central services as well as the development of the central database.  It will be important that you carry out a share of this administration and development work yourself.

You should have successfully completed undergraduate study in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.  You will have excellent professional knowledge and experience covering some key areas in the administration of heterogeneous, Unix-based networks as well as in the management of IT-projects.  We expect you to communicate effectively with the international staff of the institute.

We offer you a diverse and challenging role based in the very centre of Berlin.  Training in technical and leadership skills is available.  An appointment to this position will be made as soon as possible.  The salary will be according to the federal section of the German TVoeD scale.
