Electron beam functionalization of polymer membranes supported by green solvents investigated at the molecular scale

The Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM) has developed an electron beam approach to functionalize polymer membranes. This process requests solely a water solution of the compound which should be immobilized by electron beam irradiation. We present results of a combined experimental and computational study on the molecular processes induced by the electron beam interacting with the wet membranes. Furthermore, we present first results investigating deep eutectic solvents based on choline chloride by molecular dynamics simulations. These eco friendly and cheap solvents will be combined with electron beam and laser techniques to generate functional surfaces in the future.
