Nonlinear electromagnetic field control

Electromagnetism plays an important role in many modern high-technological applications. The mathematical and numerical analysis of the electromagnetic field control is highly challenging and calls for a careful study. This talk provides a comprehensive insight into the optimal control of electromagnetic processes governed by Maxwell's equations. Two specific nonlinear PDE-constrained optimization problems arising in the context of 3D induction heating and nonlinear magnetostatic field problems are discussed. We present recent mathematical results including the sensitivity analysis of the control-to-state operator, KKT optimality conditions, regularity of optimal control, and error estimates for the finite element approximations based on the Nedelec edge elements.
