This paper studies the residence time distributions (RTD) in an exemplary DMFC anode compartment by experimental measurements and by 3D numerical simulations. The design of the exemplary anode compartment and the realisation of the RTD measurements are described. The results obtained with the numerical simulations are in good agreement with the experimental RTD. The reliability of the computed RTDs is also proved by showing that they depend only slightly on several components of the numerical schemes.
