The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). WIAS invites applications for a

Research Assistant Position

in the Research Group

”Stochastic Algorithms and Nonparametric Statistics”

(Head: Prof. Dr. V. Spokoiny) starting at the earliest possible date.

Within a third-party funded project, the applicant will investigate inference methods for sparse correlation and factor loading matrices. The project involves to develop new algorithms  and to put these into prototypic software. An application of the derived methods and algorithms is, in close interaction with reserachers from the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) Magdeburg, planned to investigate the dynamics of fMRI, EEG and MEG based learning experiments.

Applicants must at a minimum hold a master’s degree in mathematics, physics or computer science. Applicants with PhDs are welcome. The successful candidate should have profound knowledge on at least one of the fields

·                    multivariate statistical inference

·                    efficient optimization methods under sparsity regularization

and have experience in programming using R and C/C++.

The salary is according to the German federal public service tariff. The appointment is limited for two years (at most until June 30, 2017).
