The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis
and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V.
(FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research institutes in Berlin
which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes
are members of the Leibniz Association.
WIAS invites applications for two
PhD Student Positions
in the Research Group
“Partial Differential Equations”
(Head: Prof. Dr. A. Mielke) starting at the earliest possible date (Ref. 14/39).
The positions are associated with the ERC research project “Analysis of Multiscale Systems Driven by Functionals"
(http://www.wias-berlin.de/projects/erc-adg/). Necessary prerequisites for
employment are a university degree in mathematics with concentration in applied
analysis and sound knowledge in nonlinear partial differential equations,
functional analysis, or nonconvex calculus of
variations. Moreover, deeper knowledge in at least one of the following areas
is desired: infinite-dimensional evolutionary and gradient systems, analysis of
reaction-diffusion systems, optoelectronics, continuum mechanics, multiscale modeling (homogenization, Gamma convergence).
Please direct your queries to Prof. Dr. A. Mielke.
The initial appointments are limited to March, 31,
2016 and can be extended. The reduced work schedule is 29,25
hours per week, and the salary is according to the German TvoeD
scale.
The Weierstrass
Institute is an equal opportunity employer. We explicitly encourage female
researchers to apply for the offered position.
Among equally qualified applicants,
