The Weierstraß-Institut für Angewandte Analysis und Stochastik (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the German Federal Government and the “Länder”. WIAS invites applications for a

Research Position

in the Research Group

“Nonlinear Optimization and Inverse Problems”


(Head: Prof. Dr. D. Hömberg) starting at the earliest possible date (Ref. 12/11).
Applicants are expected to have a university degree (PhD preferred) and an intimate knowledge of one of the following topics
- optimal control or shape optimization subject to PDE constraints,
- model reduction and efficient numerical solution techniques for PDEs,
- nonlinear optimization,

and the willingness to collaborate responsibly in applied industrial projects.

The initial appointment is for three years and can be extended. The work schedule is 39 hours per week, and the salary is according to the German TVoeD scale.
