Acoustic wave propagation in strongly heterogeneous piezo-elastic media

We consider acoustic wave propagation in elastic or piezo-elastic two component media with periodic structure, where the material coefficients of one component are scale dependent. The unfolding method of homogenization being applied leads to such limit models which for certain incident frequencies suppress wave propagation as the consequence of negative homogenized mass. We discuss dispersion phenomena of the limit models and influence of the microstructure topology and geometry on the homogenization result. medskip Co-authored by Bernadette Miara.
