Dynamical properties of nano structure semiconductor lasers and amplifiers

Nano structure semiconductor (quantum dot and quantum dash) semiconductor lasers have proven to have many advantages for many applications. The underlying reasons determining those advantageous properties are the complex dynamical properties governing these gain media and the inhomogeneity of the gain broadening. A deep understanding of the lasers and amplifiers requires therefore careful studies of these dynamics and this call, in turn, for sophisticated modeling and very special experimental techniques such as multi wavelength pump probe and FROG. This talk will describe some new advancements in the study of quantum dot and quantum dash lasers and amplifiers highlighting several new phenomena which were recently identified.
