Some applications of hysteresis energy potentials

Hysteresis operators have originally been introduced in the 1970' by M.A.,Krasnosel'skii and his school with the goal to constitute a background for mathematical formulation of problems in mechanics of elastoplastic materials (Ishlinskii/Prandtl-Ishlinskii models), in ferromagnetism (Preisach model), and in other systems with rate independent delay. Recently, the concept of hysteresis energy potential proposed in 1988 has found new applications in systems containing hysteresis energy balance. Referring to joint works with D. Davino, M. Eleuteri, B. Kaltenbacher, J. Kopfová, A. Petrov, E. Rocca, J. Sprekels, and C. Visone, we briefly discuss the examples of contact problems with heat exchange, phase transitions with volume change, modeling of electro-magneto-elastic interactions in magnetostrictive and piezoelectric materials, and models of material fatigue.
