At each cosmic scale, from planets, to stars, up to galactic scales and beyond, magnetic fields play a fundamental role in the formation and evolution of astrophysical objects. The magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) set of equations can describe the dynamics of non-relativistic ionized gas. In this talk I will introduce the MHD equations by putting them into astrophysical context. I will discuss a few examples of cosmic objects where MHD applies.
