Recent developments in the numerical methods of the coastal ocean model GETM

The Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research develops the General Estuarine Transport Model (GETM) to simulate the hydrodynamics and the transport of species in coastal ocean areas. This talk gives an overview about the numerical methods developed to quantify and to improve the accuracy of the model (e.g. analysis of spurious dissipation and adaptive meshes). Furthermore, open issues (e.g. efficient high-order advection schemes) and planned research activities will be outlined to motivate the exchange of expertise with other groups of the Leibniz Network.
