Localized Structures in Dissipative Nonlinear Systems - Abstract

We review recent work studying the emergence of “optical rogue wave” localised structures in nonlinear propagation in optical fibres. The characteristics of these structures in both the initial and propagative phases will be described and the effect of Raman nonlinearity will be the subject of particular consideration.
