Reduced basis modeling of optical scattering problems

We report about the numerical realization of the reduced basis method for Maxwell's equations in 3D with applications in nano photonics. This includes the following aspects: beginitemize item effective generation of affine approximations of discretized Maxwell's equations with respect to structures depending on several geometric parameters, item construction of reliable online and offline error estimators, item the selection of snapshots and the corresponding construction of the reduced basis via a greedy algorithm, and item efficient realization of the online phase and possible re-use of informations for parameter scans. enditemize We exemplify our strategies by a number of typical applications and discuss both advantages and limits of the approach.
